Interview by Katy Fairman
Mark Webber is one of motorsport’s most recognisable figures, having raced across Formula 1 for 12 seasons and found great success with endurance racing too. Since ending his racing career at the end of 2016, he’s been a proud Porsche brand ambassador and is attending the 2026 Hankook Berlin E-Prix to celebrate their 75th motorsport anniversary.
He caught up with Formula E to discuss Porsche’s incredible success in the all-electric championship and his thoughts on the newly-released GEN4 machine which will come into effect from the 2026/27 season.

“I've seen Formula E from its infancy really early on,” Webber said of the championship. “It's been around over 10 years now and through all the generations of cars and different types of circuits, what's absolutely clear is just how competitive it is.
“There's some seriously handy racing drivers. Some of the best guys in the world are in this championship. It's a very complex championship to be competitive in because the margins are so small. It's been good to watch. I've been to quite a few races and it’s super competitive, and I know they've got some exciting plans for the future as well.”
Formula E debuted the GEN4 in a special event ahead of the 2026 Hankook Berlin E-Prix, the latest generation of race car which is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 335kph. The car also does 0-100kph in approximately 1.8 seconds and will deliver 50% more power in race mode than the current GEN3 Evo race car.
FACT SHEET: All you need to know about the GEN4 car
The GEN4 car will be an average of 10 seconds faster per lap than the GEN3 car in qualifying mode and in ATTACK MODE produces up to 600kW. It’s a car that delivers performance that pushes the limits of electric racing and will be the only single-seater race car with permanent all-wheel drive.
“Faster is always better for us drivers,” Webber continued when discussing the GEN4. “I'm hearing good things about the GEN4 car: very, very, very quick and a lot of power. It's going to be very interesting how they select the circuits and how the calendar looks - obviously that's in good hands - making sure it gets some good feedback from the drivers.
“I think, ultimately, that’ll be the best example of Formula E we've ever seen. No question about it.
“That's what the drivers want - the speeds are pretty high at the moment, but obviously it sounds like they're going to be incredibly impressive next year. I look forward to watching that and if the drivers are happy then generally the championship's happy.”

As the reigning teams’ and manufacturers’ champions, Porsche knows how to win. They proved that in Berlin earlier today, when Nico Müller secured his maiden victory in front of the German team’s home crowd.
“Porsche has never been shy from new technology, and every category that Porsche has ever entered in, they've generally won and had great success in. Formula E's been no different.
“They want to showcase their technology and the electrification into street cars. I think it's obvious that they were going to be involved here, and normally when Porsche do do racing, they do it pretty well.”
