LANDFILL GAS

Located within 65km of both central Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, this initiative has significant benefits on both a global and local scale. Located at a landfill site which receives urban waste from Kuala Lumpur, the aim is to capture and utilise the landfill gas emissions released as the waste decomposes.

At the local level this removes some of the harmful toxins from the air, reduces the risk of fire and explosions at the site and significantly improves the working conditions on site. The emissions are used for generating power, which can then be sold on to the grid and reduces the burden on fossil fuels.

The overall CO2 saving per year is 276,630 tonnes and the project directly contributes to 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) (3, 7, 8, 12, 13)..
