Jaguar Racing on the prowl for points in Puebla

Jaguar Racing on the prowl for points in Puebla

Jaguar Racing is sitting pretty as the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship heads to Mexico and Puebla's Autodromo Miguel E. Abed. The British squad holds second in the standings, two points back from leaders Mercedes-EQ. Mitch Evans and Sam Bird also find themselves in the Drivers' top six, less than a race win's worth of points from the summit.

Last time out, victory slipped through the fingers of Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) around the streets of Monaco half way around the final lap, as reigning champion Antonio Felix da Costa (DS TECHEETAH) made the most of his energy advantage to sensationally swoop by the Kiwi at the chicane.

Despite that, an unreal overtake up at Beau Rivage and a strong haul of points with the Kiwi clinging to third mean the 26-year-old sits just eight points back from Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) at the top of the table, and Evans has form in Mexico - the winner in Mexico City at the Circuito Hermanos Rodriguez in 2020.

“I came away from the Monaco E-Prix with my third podium of the season which was great but I know as a team we could have got more," says Evans. "In Puebla, I'll be more determined than ever to get the points we deserve and push ourselves into a strong position in the Teams’ World Championship.

"Mexico has been a successful venue for the team in the past and I feel very ready to take on this double-header in the heat.”

“We came away from the last E-Prix with positive momentum and a strong result," adds Jaguar Racing Team Director James Barclay. "Heading to Mexico we know qualifying and consistency of race pace is key in order to continue our positive on-track performances.

"With high temperatures and a brand new circuit to learn we undoubtedly need to focus on ensuring both the drivers and the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 are ready to capitalise at the double-header race weekend which marks just over halfway through the season.”

Sam Bird finds himself fifth in the running, though he's not made the podium since Round 3 in Rome. The Brit notched points in Monaco, and he's eyeing more after a mid-season break spent learning the ins and outs of Puebla - a new circuit to all 24 drivers.

"I’ve had a couple of important weeks ahead of Mexico to really focus on making sure I am ready to get the most out of the new track in Puebla," says Bird. "Each circuit has its own challenges and undoubtedly part of the challenge for round eight and nine will be the temperatures we face. We know the Jaguar I-TYPE 5 is strong and now I’m ready to push during every lap to make sure as a team we score the most points possible.”
