Whilst all eyes were on the impressive climbs up the grid from Miami E-Prix race winner Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), or the double Porsche podium from Nico Müller and Pascal Wehrlein, there was one performance that seemed to go a little unnoticed.
Joel Eriksson had achieved his best career result in Formula E, finishing in fourth for Envision Racing. Having started sixth, also his best performance in qualifying, the Swedish driver did an excellent job managing the challenging wet conditions and now finds himself eighth in the Drivers’ World Championship standings.
HANKOOK DEBRIEF: Five things we learned in Miami
“A strong weekend overall,” Eriksson summarised his time at the Miami International Autodrome. “We were quick in Free Practice, quick in qualifying and made it through into the Duels, and then finishing off in P4.
“We got a good bunch of points for the whole team actually, with a recovery from Sebastien [Buemi] from back to the grid to seventh, so that's a very good day for the whole team. Feeling good moving on from this weekend, and hopefully we can hit the ground running with good pace in Jeddah.”
It’s not long to wait, with the double-header in Jeddah next week across February 13 and 14 with the return of EVO Sessions a day later on February 15.
“It will be cool,” Eriksson said about the return of PIT BOOST at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the first time the groundbreaking battery charging technology has been used in Season 12.
“It's going to be a bit different, it's going to be a night race, but the other drivers are going to know the track so we will be starting a bit on the back foot. We need to make sure we are spending enough time on the simulator to make sure we are as prepared as possible.

“I think that's where we gained some performance this weekend, because everybody started on the same level. Everybody started on an equal level because nobody drove here before, so that was very beneficial for me.”
Fourth place is the best finish for Eriksson during his short stint in Formula E so far, with his previous best being at the opening round in São Paulo in December where he finished seventh. Although this is his first full-time season, Eriksson joined Formula E with 10 race starts to his name from time with Dragon PENSKE Autosport in Season 7 and then stepping in for a double-header in Berlin at Envision in Season 10.
“This is probably the best [race I’ve done in Formula E],” Eriksson concluded. “It was very, very tricky conditions out there. We all know it's super hard to drive this car in the wet. So just to confirm to myself that I can be quick in the wet as well, and can control the car in a very fast way around the lap, that's obviously very, very positive and a good feeling for myself. So this is obviously the strongest FE race so far.”
