Mitch Evans made history in Miami, when he took his Jaguar TCS Racing machine to victory after starting ninth on the grid. Not only was he the first race winner at the new Miami International Autodrome circuit, but he also achieved career win number 15 – putting him top of the all-time winners list in Formula E.
Evans, who has remained loyal and committed to the Jaguar team since they joined the all-electric championship in Season 3, navigated the wet weather perfectly alongside tactical ATTACK MODE deployments and a stunning switchback move on Porsche’s Nico Müller to seal the deal.
“Honestly, I wasn't expecting it after practice and qualifying just because we've been really struggling in the dry here,’ Evans explained after the race. “So when the rain came down, it was like ‘what am I going to have in these conditions?’ and it's always a bit of an unknown when it rains.

“I knew from the first few laps that I had a really good car underneath me, and I just wanted to pick off some of the guys and then I caught up to the front pack and they had all kind of done an ATTACK MODE, and I hadn’t, so I knew I was in a really good position.
“Then just had to execute it, not make mistakes and then obviously get that move done on Nico [Müller]. So a really, really strong race.”
Up until Evans’ victory and fastest lap point, as well as an eighth place for teammate Antonio Felix da Costa, Jaguar had failed to score a single point in São Paulo or Mexico City. It could have been a bigger haul of points too, had Andretti’s rookie Felipe Drugovich not wiped out da Costa midway through the Miami E-Prix.
“I just want to use this as a reset for us, in terms of our championship,” Evans continued. “It's been a really tough start, but with 25 points we'll definitely take it and then move on to Jeddah.”
Starting in ninth, after just missing out on the Duels, Evans picked off his competition and passed Müller to take the lead and never looked back.
“When you make those places up, it's always fun. I really felt like I had a good advantage over some people, so that always helps. I just had to try and be smart, play the long game, but the pace just made, in terms of strategy, life for us all easier. I wish I had that pace every race! Unfortunately it's not possible, most of the time, but full credits to the team.
REPORT: Stunning Evans switchback move secures Miami E-Prix victory
“We should figure out what we need to do in the dry because I'm lacking something there, and it's really bizarre. All season's been tough. So, these conditions worked out for us today, but we'll think about that on Monday.”
Win number 15 takes Evans to the top of the all-time list, passing Sebastien Buemi of Envision Racing who is on 14 after his incredible Monaco victory last year.
Evans’ first win came in Rome in Season 5, and since then has been victorious in locations like Mexico City, Jakarta, Seoul, São Paulo, Berlin, London, Monaco, Shanghai and now Miami. It’s a seriously impressive feat, although as he reminds himself he’s still missing the most important win of all: a World Championship.
HISTORY: Who are all the Formula E champions from Seasons 1 to 11?
“I think the first [win] is always very special,” Evans reminisced. “They're all special. They're all worth the same amount of points. Yeah, they're all just different as well. This one was just more unexpected than anything, because these conditions are so challenging and concentration has to be perfect.
“They're important and they're all lovely. It's hard to know where this one stacks ends up, but after the season that we had so far, obviously it feels like it's relatively up there.”
