Roger Griffiths on Andretti's next chapter and Formula E season so far

Same team, new look. Andretti might be celebrating their home race in Miami this weekend, but the team has also embraced a whole new look thanks to new title partner TWG AI.

The Andretti team, who also marked their 150th race in Formula E last time out in Mexico City – having participated in every race the championship has run – started the season strong thanks to a victory from Jake Dennis in São Paulo, as well as bringing in Brazilian superstar Felipe Drugovich

Roger Griffiths, who has been with the American team since the Spring of 2014, acts as Team Principal and caught up with Championship Journalist Katy Fairman ahead of the 2026 Miami E-Prix weekend.

“It's a partnership that we announced a couple of days ago,” Griffiths said on the TWG AI deal, which has resulted in the iconic Andretti red being switched out for black and striking neon green accents. “TWG AI is a part of the wider TWG global group. It's a new company that's been set up to exploit artificial intelligence across many aspects, not just motorsport or entertainment, but across other business areas as well.

“We're very pleased and proud to be the first of the Andretti global motorsport properties to be showcasing, not only the colors, but also on the race track as well. It's a departure from the red, where we've been for several years now, and it's going to take a bit of getting used to, but super excited to be representing this new brand.”

Griffiths was also keen to stress that the new AI roles would not be used in place of the people at the team, but instead utilised alongside the existing ecosystem. Working under a cost cap, it means that some jobs can be submitted to artificial intelligence to help with the workload of the staff.

As we get ready for Round 03 in Miami on Saturday 31 January, Griffiths and the Andretti team look back at the start of their season.

“It was the perfect start to some extent for Jake. At one stage, I think we were looking at a possible one two [with Drugovich]. It really set the team up in good standing and justified all of the hard work that's gone in over the offseason. As short as it was, the engineers dug deep.

“They found some things that had kind of been eluding them through last season. It was disappointing to have a season where we didn't have a race win [last season], but we've righted that one. We'd like to see two or three more [wins] if we can. We could, would and should have been on the podium in Mexico City, but it was not meant to be.

EXPLAINED: What does a Formula E race weekend look like, and what's the format?

“We're second both in the Teams’ and Drivers’ championship right now, and scored a fair few manufacturer points for Porsche as well. We're so happy to be representing their brand, and you know they're obviously trying to retain their title as well.”

Having hit 150 races, every single one in the championship's history, Griffiths is just one of a handful of personalities in the paddock to have every E-Prix under his belt.

“I'm super privileged to be able to do all of these races,” he concluded. “We have two others in the garage that have done this journey with me as well and we have quite a few people in the 120s, 130s and even 140s so there's this solid core of people that have been with us from day one.

“We've certainly seen Formula E grow and develop over the years. It's had its challenges, but I think one of the best things about this paddock is a lot of us were there right at the beginning, and we fought to survive. That brought us quite close together, and we figured the problems out together, and that's kind of been the mentality that we've kept going.

“With over half a billion viewers on TV last season. I think we've got some really good statistics backing up to say this championship is succeeding. I'm super proud to have paid just a tiny little part of all of that.”
