CUPRA KIRO Formula E driver, Pepe Marti, will take part in the upcoming Rookie Free Practice session in Miami on January 30. Marti, who scored his first Formula E points at the 2026 Hankook Mexico City E-Prix, is eligible for the test under Article 4.7 of the 2025/26 FIA Formula E Sporting Regulations, which defines that a driver is considered a rookie until the end of their first season in the championship.
NEWS: Rookie Free Practice session set for Miami E-Prix weekend
The team hope that the additional track time will provide Marti with an invaluable opportunity for additional track time and data collection.
Pepe Martí, CUPRA KIRO Driver, said: “It’s good to be doing FP0 in Miami. Following São Paulo where we missed FP1 and Mexico City where we missed FP2 due to a technical issue, having FP1 and FP2 alongside FP0 should set us up very well for the weekend. For me personally, it’s very exciting to be one of the first drivers to experience the track in a live session, and I’m looking forward to getting the season started again.”
Russell O’Hagan, CUPRA KIRO Team Principal, said: “Thanks to Formula E’s regulations for this season and a welcome initiative by the FIA, we have the unique benefit and advantage of being able to run Pepe in FP0 in Miami. Because the likes of Felipe [Drugovich] and Joel [Eriksson] – the only other first full-year drivers this season – have raced in Formula E in the past, Pepe is the only full-time driver on the grid who is eligible to participate, which makes the session especially valuable for us.
"Pepe’s first experience of a Formula E car only came during pre-season testing, and after the cancellation of FP1 in São Paulo and missing FP2 in Mexico City, FP0 represents an invaluable opportunity for his continued development given his relative level of experience. With the Miami International Autodrome also being a brand-new circuit for Formula E, we also have the added benefit of gaining an extra 40 minutes of running with one of our full-time drivers. It’s an opportunity that no other team has this weekend, and for us, it’s a win-win.”
