There was drama during the first race of Season 12 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, when rookie Pepe Martí flew over the top of Antonio Felix da Costa's Jaguar TCS Racing car, leading to a spectacular accident that, thankfully, saw Martí unharmed.
The wreckage forced a Red Flag towards the end of the race, with a Full Course Yellow thrown with the other Jaguar of Mitch Evans in the wall just prior.

It was a worrying moment, but thanks to the consistent efforts to improve safety in this championship, Martí was able to walk away unharmed after the shunt.
“The main thing is he’s alright,” Martí’s CUPRA KIRO teammate Dan Ticktum said after the race. “To be honest you see almost any crash these days and I have seen a lot of them, and it’s incredible when you watch a crash like that and my first instinct is like I know that he’s going to be alright. The safety [in Formula E] is just so good. He was doing very well up until that point.”
The 20-year-old Spaniard made the transition from FIA Formula 2 to Formula E for this season, and is definitely one to watch in the future of the championship.
