The funding will support the Foundation’s “Jia with Love” initiative — a comprehensive community-based programme offering psychological counselling, life skills development, and family support services. This year’s grant will be used to create a new dedicated training space within a facility supported by the initiative. The room will be named after Formula E and will serve as a hub for workshops and training in Jiading District — home of the Formula E circuit.

This marks the second consecutive year of collaboration between Formula E and the Shanghai Mutual Aid Foundation. In 2024, the Fund enabled the “Jia with Love” programme to run for a full year, stabilising its operations and allowing it to develop further. Building on that momentum, the 2025 grant will now enable the Foundation to enhance its impact even further.
The partnership has been supported locally by Lisheng Sports, who have played a key role in identifying and engaging with the cause. Their contribution reflects Formula E’s local-first approach — ensuring support is tailored to the needs of each city and community it races in.
The Better Futures Fund is a cornerstone of Formula E’s “Formula Equity” social impact strategy, which focuses on tackling inequality and empowering underrepresented communities across the globe. For Season 11, Formula E has significantly increased the Fund’s total to €250,000, with a €25,000 grant allocated to a local charity in each of its ten race markets – more than doubling last season’s commitment of €100,000.
The “Jia with Love” initiative provides a wraparound model of care for children and families impacted by trauma, instability, or limited access to mental health services. The renewed funding will help expand:
- One-on-one counselling and emotional intervention
- Family therapy and parent-child workshops
- Community-building peer activities and outings
- Life education and wellbeing training
- Emergency care plans and crisis response mechanisms
- Advocacy and access to public support systems
Race week plans
Formula E’s engagement with the Shanghai Mutual Aid Foundation extends beyond funding, with collaborative activities planned during race week:
- Visit to Qingcongquan Children’s Intelligence Training Center: Formula E representatives will visit Qingcongquan — a core delivery partner of “Jia with Love” — which supports children with autism and their families through specialised education, therapy, and early interventions. Recognised nationally for its excellence, the centre delivers art and music therapy, structured teaching, and peer support for parents. The visit will include mutual participation in cultural activities aligned with the upcoming Dragon Boat Festival.
- Grant Signing Ceremony: A formal grant ceremony will take place on Friday, 30 May at the Shanghai International Circuit. Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability at Formula E, will officially sign the renewed grant alongside representatives from the Jiading Civil Affairs Bureau, Qingcongquan, and the Shanghai Mutual Aid Foundation. The event will highlight the long-term impact and shared goals of the partnership.
Julia Pallé, VP of Sustainability, Formula E, said: “We are proud to renew our partnership with the Shanghai Mutual Aid Foundation, whose vital work supports vulnerable children and families in Jiading District. The ‘Jia with Love’ initiative is a powerful example of the long-term, community-driven impact we aim to deliver through the Better Futures Fund.
This funding will help expand essential care and emotional support for young people in Shanghai, strengthening resilience and stability for those facing significant challenges. At Formula E, we are committed to ensuring our presence in host cities leaves a positive legacy — and this partnership brings that commitment to life.”
About the Better Futures Fund
Launched during Season 10, the Better Futures Fund was created to build on the positive legacy Formula E leaves behind in host cities, maintaining the world-leading sustainability standards that the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship sets across the sporting and sustainability sectors. To date, the fund has impacted 13,520 people within those local communities.
Focusing on initiatives aligned to Formula E’s purpose and sustainability strategy delivering environmental and social impact, with the goal of accelerating sustainable human progress through the power of electric racing, the Fund empowers and supports communities via impactful initiatives that will leave a legacy well beyond race weekends through funding (€25,000 per city), awareness, engagement with Formula E.
Alongside the funding itself, Formula E is committing to working with each charity holistically, providing awareness of the causes, engaging directly with the organisation and offering volunteer support while in the city. Organisations will also be included within Formula E’s wider sustainability strategy, including hosting representatives at track and introducing them to the wider Formula E ecosystem as part of the series’ Inspiration Hour held every race week, to engage local communities with Formula E’s races.
