New Formula E champion Lucas di Grassi was officially crowned at the end of season awards gala in Montreal.
The ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport driver was handed his trophy by FIA President Jean Todt, while Teams’ champions Renault e.dams were presented their award by Formula E Founder and CEO Alejandro Agag and deputy CEO Alberto Longo.
Di Grassi said: "It was a fantastic year - I have to thank the team at ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport, Thomas [Biermaier] to Hans-Jurgen [Abt] and to Audi, Dieter [Gass] and Allan [McNish]. Professor Gutzmer from Schaeffler who have also given a big push this year. Although there were tough moments, we had to make tough decisions - it was extremely difficult to race with a broken leg. We committed a lot to this championship since the beginning, fought for victories and fought for championships two years in a row. But there was always something missing - losing by a little margin. This year I was under so much pressure, same as Sebastien [Buemi]. When this weekend comes along, all the images come flooding in - when you were karting and your father took you out for the first time and through junior categories and to clinching the Formula E title. I’m very emotional and it’s very special for me. Today, I write my name in the history of Formula E with two great names of motorsport - Nelson Piquet Jr and Sebastien Buemi. The three of us deserved a title at this stage - but maybe not in that order! Thanks to Alejandro and the FIA, and all the teams and drivers. This line-up is one of the best in motorsport - it’s only going to get tougher.”
