Formula E is racing in city-centres but the hosting cities of each ePrix have been carefully chosen to showcase the ethos and values of the Championship regarding sustainability.
The next race is round two in Putrajaya, Malaysia on the 22nd of November.
Putrajaya is recognised internationally for its sustainable efforts - hosting the eighth International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability (Sustainable City 2013) and the fifth International Conference on Energy & Sustainability 2014 - both organised by the British University of Wessex.
The city was planned in a top down approach around the concept of “garden cities” seeking to balance the inclusion of green space through strong guidelines for land use planning, transportation systems planning, public amenities planning, and infrastructure planning to continuously improve quality of life of its residents and to further reduce its carbon footprint.
One of the best examples is the Diamond, which is the Energy Commission Headquarters. Its specific shape was thought to be the most aerodynamic and the building demonstrates effectiveness in the reduction of fuel consumption, water saving and careful materials choice to improve indoor quality environment.
