TAG Heuer Porsche
On paper, it might look like the Porsche teammates are quite the distance apart. One has led the Drivers' World Championship for most of the season, whilst the other has been familiarising himself with his new surroundings. But the truth is, both have had their moments to shine this year.
For Wehrlein, winning both races in Diriyah boosted his title hopes, as well as standing on the top step of the podium at Race 1 in Jakarta. However, his mid-season has been plagued with low-scoring results, and until his recent victory, it looked like perhaps the reality of a first Formula E title was just an early dream.
For Da Costa, two back-to-back zero-point finishes whilst his teammate won both events was a tough pill to swallow. However, just as the Portuguese driver does best, he found his rhythm and finished third in Hyderabad before accomplishing an incredible victory at the next round in Cape Town. Qualifying has been a challenge for Porsche this season, but they'll be hoping to end their season as strong as they started it.
Avalanche Andretti
Jake Dennis currently has the most podiums out of anyone this season, with seven to his name. In an incredible stat, the Brit has either not scored this season or been a part of the top three celebrations. Winning the first race of GEN3 in Mexico City was a great accomplishment for the American team, who will be looking to replicate the same at their home race in Portland this weekend.
Dennis currently lines up just one point behind championship leader Wehrlein, and is certainly a title contender. His new teammate for season 9 is Andre Lotterer, who has yet to have the same level of success in this new era of Formula E. His best result of the season came at the first race in Mexico, where he finished fourth, but he has since only accomplished a best of eighth at the first race in Berlin. He also missed the recent Jakarta double-header event due to commitments with the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Envision Racing
Next up, Envision Racing. After Monaco, Cassidy led the Drivers' standings, and two consecutive wins seemed to put him as a strong bet for the title. However, Jakarta showed how quickly things can change in Formula E, as the Kiwi secured just seven points over the double header weekend in Indonesia. Although remaining mature about the situation, aware that everyone has 'bad weekends', it's undoubtedly a wobble in his strong run of form that could see him swipe a first Formula E championship.
On the other side of the Envision garage sits Sebastien Buemi. The Season 2 champ has had a tough couple of years in the all-electric championship but joined the Envision Racing team ahead of the new season, hoping his luck would change. Although he sits ninth in the standings, it is not a true reflection of how his year has gone. A podium finish in Hyderabad was pulled from under his feet when he was penalised for an overpower usage. However, Buemi still has speed on his side as he has achieved two Julius Baer Pole Positions in S9 and now holds the record for the most poles in Formula E history.
Jaguar TCS Racing
The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 of Mitch Evans always finds a way of getting himself in championship contention, season after season. This year is no exception, and with two wins under his belt and an additional two podiums, Evans is still keeping his name in the hat.
Although slightly behind the top three of Wehrlein, Dennis and Cassidy in terms of points, it's still totally possible Evans could emerge on top. Although a DNF in round one of Jakarta derailed his consistent run of points since São Paulo, a lot can change in five races.
For his teammate, Sam Bird, his season has had a big run of ups and downs. Three podiums are a good thing for the racing resume, but when all apart from one of his other finishes resulted in zero points, it's a tricky path to navigate. Two separate clashes with his teammate have also made headlines for the wrong reasons.
DS PENSKE
DS PENSKE might have looked competitive in pre-season testing, but the reality of Season 9 has been quite challenging for the newly-partnered team. The squad comprises not one but two Formula E champions, and the pressure is high. Vergne has stood on each step of the podium this year with an impressive win in Hyderabad. Much like the others, there have been the odd race weekends where no points are picked up, but generally, he's been consistently in the top 10.
For reigning champion Vandoorne, his best weekend was in São Paulo, where he sat on pole and finished sixth. Elsewhere, the season hasn't delivered him the highs he saw on his way to his inaugural Formula E title in Season 8.
Maserati MSG Racing
What a rollercoaster of a season it has been for Maserati in their first year of Formula E. Their presence in the all-electric championship was felt hard when they dominated the timesheets in pre-season testing. However, fast forward to the start of the year, and they were nowhere to be seen. For Guenther, it took until round seven to cross the chequered flag in the points, but when he did, it was in style: a podium at his home race! From that point, it was like a fire had been lit in the young German, who arrived in Jakarta earlier this month and finished every timed session the quickest. He converted that speed into third place and a long-awaited win on the Sunday. For Mortara he's not been able to match his teammate's pace but has picked up some solid points across various races. A best result of sixth at Round 10 in Jakarta shows Mortara and the team are on the right path.
NEOM McLaren
Also a team in their first year of Formula E is NEOM McLaren. Although both drivers have experience in the championship before, filling in as a reserve driver or learning from the sidelines in a third driver capacity, it's still both of their first full-time seasons. Hughes made a fantastic first impression when he picked up decent points and even pole at the second race in Diriyah on just his third outing! He achieved the same in Monaco, starting the race around the iconic principality in P1 but would ultimately end up finishing sixth.
His teammate, Rene Rast, might be behind him in the standings, but he has more silverware to show off. A podium result in Diriyah was a warm welcome and a great kickstart for the McLaren squad, although the German has failed to score any points in the last five consecutive races.
Nissan
Another duo close-ish in points is Nissan. Their recent result in Jakarta was their best race weekend this season, with their drivers Fenestraz and Nato finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. There's no denying that rookie Fenestraz is quick. He holds the record for Formula E's fastest-ever lap, which he achieved in Cape Town, and he's also beaten the tough competition to get a pole in his first season.
Excellent race management looked to be rewarded with a podium in the inaugural Cape Town E-Prix. Yet, an incident in the race's final stages with Cassidy brought that dream to an abrupt end. For Nato, his full-time Formula E comeback has been filled with highs and lows. The fastest lap and a seventh-place finish in Hyderabad was a good result, and he was able to end his five-race streak of no championship points with his great fifth place in Jakarta.
Mahindra Racing
It's been a bumpy ride for the Mahindra gang this year. Long-serving boss Dilbagh Gill departed at the end of last season, and a new line-up of Season 3 champion di Grassi and Rowland looked to be a good pairing. GEN3 started in a fantastic fashion, as Lucas di Grassi achieved pole and finished third on the podium. But, in a crazy twist, that is still his only points-scoring result in 11 rounds.
For Rowland, a sixth place at the team's home race in India helped his points haul, but after the Monaco E-Prix, it was announced that he and the team had agreed to part ways. He has been replaced by energetic Spaniard Roberto Merhi, who is very inexperienced compared to new teammate di Grassi but is quickly learning.
NIO 333
After a tricky few seasons, NIO 333 are back and has put on some great racing over the first 11 rounds of Season 9. Both drivers have made the Duels several times, with Ticktum even taking the lead of the race in Berlin - a place you wouldn't usually see a NIO. The Brit has twice finished in sixth and is certainly playing his part in helping the team have their best season in years. For Sette Camara, a fifth-place finish in Hyderabad gave the team ten points, which has helped them work towards their goal of finishing the teams' standings in eighth this season.
ABT CUPRA
Last on the list is ABT CUPRA. Although they've only got seven points to their name so far, they're the team with the closest teammate comparison. Frijns picked up two separate points finishes in Berlin - where he started on pole in an incredible twist - and Jakarta. What's made even more impressive is Frijns also missed the four races at the start of the season after fracturing his hand at the beginning of the season in Mexico City.
Kelvin Van der Linde was brought in to replace him, but during his stint failed to secure any points. Teammate Mueller joined Frijns on the front row in the amazing wet Berlin qualifying session and hung into the top ten to finish ninth. He was almost on track for back-to-back points finishes in Monaco, but he was taken out in the last few laps by Jaguar's Sam Bird.
