Berlin pre-race press conference: what the drivers said

Ahead of the Berlin double-header this weekend, we hear from reigning champion and Mercedes-EQ driver Nyck de Vries, Nissan e.dams' Max Guenther and TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E's Andre Lotterer about their thoughts on the new Gen3 car, what they make of the reverse circuit on the Sunday and how the plan to play Rounds 7 & 8 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

"It's always great to to race on home soil and it was super nice to win here in Season 6, but obviously it was without any spectators - it wasn't quite the same feeling. The racing is always good. It's a track where you can overtake really well and where energy management is obviously is very important. The surface here is very unique, so you have got kind of different challenges on on this track.

"[The start of the season] was not an easy for us. We know it and we accept this this challenge. For me, it's always the same going into the race weekend - I'm always focusing on my job and trying to extract everything."

"We have to look at the positives. We been qualifying well and fighting at the front after a really good weekend in Mexico City. So, the average performance is there. I've qualified in the Duels at every race, so we just need things to line up nicely to be in the top three.

"The potential is definitely there on various tracks, so it's a good sign. We really came a long way and improved a lot from from the first season with the team, and we are still still looking for more here. It's a big home race for me and for our full German team, so that will give us an extra boost."

"I think we as a team have good memories here in Berlin. Obviously in 2021, we scored our first one-two, with Stoffel (Vandoorne) winning the race, and we ended Season 6 on a high. Last year, we were fortunate enough to clinch both championships but as much as I like to think back and that Berlin has a sort of special place in our hearts but we are also eight months further down the line and we're in a new season. So, we're living in the present and we try to achieve the best possible result this weekend, so that's where our focus will be.

"I'm actually quite positive about our start to the season. On my side of the garage, we've had three difficult races but I don't think that there was necessarily anything wrong. I do feel that race pace has been our main point of attention because we were not always as competitors as we would have liked because we often started in the front but we were not able to capitalise on a pole position.

"That's definitely an area we need to pay attention to but then sometimes things don't don't work out and they don't come your way. I feel like the penny just didn't drop in our direction, which sometimes happens and you just have to accept that. Sooner or later things will come around but I feel like Monaco was actually really good weekend for us, even though the result was poor. Little things can make big differences and that is what this championship is about."
