Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) set the benchmark time in Free Practice 1 at the Brooklyn Street Circuit, with NIO 333's Oliver Turvey and BMW i Andretti Motorsport driver Maximilian Guenther in close company.

Frijns' 1m10.282s shaded Turvey's effort by a little under a tenth-of-a-second, with Guenther third, Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi fourth, Pascal Wehrlein fifth in the Porsche and Joel Eriksson - now a permanent fixture at DRAGON / PENSKE AUTOSPORT in 2020/21, in place of Nico Mueller - rounding out the top six.

The top 10 all sat within a second of one-another as teams and drivers reaquainted themselves with streets of Red Hook, Brooklyn ahead of the 2021 ABB New York City E-Prix.
Dutchman Frijns had headed to Puebla top of the Drivers' running but a non-score at a tough race weekend in Mexico saw Edoardo Mortara fly into the frame from 12th in the table. The Swiss-Italian currently finds himself 19th in the times and 1.4 seconds off the pace, with a bit of work to do.

Sam Bird (Jaguar Racing) had set the fastest time through the first and second sector on a flying lap late in the session and looked to be threatening FP1's benchmark but at Clinton Wharf, a tricky quick left-hander, he found the wall on the exit.

That damage could prove problematic for the two-time NYC E-Prix winner if the Brit's damaged his Jaguar's powertrain, with Team Principal James Barclay confirming his driver clipped the wall at the apex on the way through Turn 14.
