'Strong pace and clean races' the target for BMW as Sims and Guenther eye overall honours

BMW i Andretti Motorsport finds itself firmly in the hunt to secure the ABB FIA Formula E Championship Teams' and Drivers' titles on home soil, with both Alexander Sims and Maximilian Guenther firmly in contention.

BMW i Andretti Motorsport expects by far the most unusual end to an ABB FIA Formula E Championship campaign with an intense, condensed nine-day six-race half-season comprising the 2019/20 finale set to get underway on Wednesday, August 5 from Berlin.

Three different layouts await at Tempelhof Airport, with BMW sitting pretty as it stands. Alex Sims and Max Guenther sit third and fourth in the Drivers' standings on 46 and 44 points respectively, with current leader, DS Techeetah's Antonio Felix da Costa firmly in their sights.

Sims won in Diriyah at the season-opening Saudi Arabia double-header to kick-start his Formula E victory account in fine style and set a precedent for what would follow prior to the enforced mid-season break.

Guenther has also impressed, with the race win in Chile and second place last time out in Marrakesh - pushing the German giant on to second in the Teams' standings just eight points shy of DS Techeetah.

“I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing in Formula E after such a long break," said Sims. "I think the track layout changes look exciting.

"They all look very different, so it certainly won’t feel like six races in the same place. Berlin was pretty good for us last year, so hopefully we will have a similar strong pace again and try to have some clean race days.

"Our main target has to be to score some good points and to fight for the title. I can’t wait.”

“I unfortunately won't be in front of a home crowd this time out in Berlin," added Guenther. "But at least driving in my home country to finish the second half of the season is really special.

"We are really motivated after the long break. We’re also aware that we had a good first half of the season with strong results, but everything is starting from zero again now.

"I think that, as previously, we will try to focus only on ourselves and getting the best out of the car and us as a team.

"There will be some huge challenges, but we’re very well positioned, we used the past few months wisely and now I am just really looking forward to things starting up again.”
