After a action packed Practice 1, it was Envision Virgin Racing's Sam Bird who topped the timesheets ahead of Qualifying with a 1:07.627s lap. After a collision in the morning, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Daniel Abt failed to make it out in the second practice.
Envision Virgin Racing's Sam Bird went fastest in Practice 2 with a time of 1:07.672s, setting a new lap record around the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriquez Formula E circuit, albeit on a different track configuration. Last season, Mahindra Racing's Pascal Wehrlein set the lap record on the old course with a 1:01.112s lep last year. Behind Bird was DS Techeetah's Antonio Felix da Costa (1:07.791s) and Panasonic Jaguar Racing's Mitch Evans (1:08.025s). 12 drivers all finished the session within one second of each other.
With temperatures rising, grip levels increased as all 24 drivers made last minute adjustments ahead of Qualifying (12:00 local time). Rounding off the top ten were reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne and former Mexico City race winner Lucas di Grassi (Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler). Sitting 16th in the standings, Vergne will be hoping to make an impact here in Mexico as he attempts to kick start his third title campaign.
After a collision in Practice 1 earlier in the morning, Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler's Daniel Abt failed to make it out on track during the second Practice 2.
