Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein clinched his second Formula E Drivers' World Championship after surviving a tense season finale at the London Excel.. The German driver joins Jean-Eric Vergne (Citroën Racing) as the only two-time series champions in the history of the all-electric championship.

Wehrlein came into the double-header weekend third in the standings behind Jake Dennis (Andretti) and Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing), but after securing the Julius Baer Pole Position and victory on Saturday he was able to finish the race without scoring any points to take the crown.

"I mean the emotions have cooled down a bit," Wehrlein said after being crowned champion. "The happiness is increasing more and more. What we did in this season was again outstanding. I think we could have made our life a bit easier and have decided that championship already earlier, but I guess it would be boring if it was decided earlier as well!

"Today was intense. A lot of games being played, far beyond the line, but it is what it is. Still kept our head cool and brought it home. So, yeah, a special thanks to my team to everyone involved in that project, we are the most successful manufacturer in this GEN3 era and I couldn't be happier and more proud of the team. This one is for them.

"You know, I give everything for them. I put my heart out there and I know it's the same the other way. They give everything for me and yeah, it's been such a great journey together."

Supported by his Porsche teammate Nico Müller, Wehrlein controlled the indoor-outdoor track to capture maximum points on Saturday, building a five-point championship lead over Dennis heading into Sunday.

However, he found himself embroiled in a battle with Jaguar’s António Félix da Costa, who engaged in aggressive defensive tactics to assist teammate Mitch Evans' title push. Both Wehrlein and other title rival Jake Dennis also clashed on-track, but it was Wehrlein who finished ahead and ended the year on 169 points to Dennis' 164.
