Nyck de Vries discusses his second Formula E victory of the season

Nyck de Vries secured his second victory of the 2025/26 season, managing a win in a race which started as wet and ended as dry around the streets of Tokyo.

Mahindra Racing’s Nyck de Vries driver started in fifth, and benefited from a late red flag which involved his teammate Edoardo Mortara. Although he had done a mega job to position himself in first place with some excellent overtakes, Jake Dennis (Andretti) had more energy and was in his final ATTACK MODE and quickly catching both de Vries and Nick Cassidy (Citroën Racing) who was in second.

But, this red flag collision, stopped the racing and meant it was a final lap dash to the chequered flag keeping the result with Nyck de Vries first, Cassidy second and Dennis third.

“I do want to thank the Gods because I think we were a little bit lucky today,” de Vries said about his second win of the year – equalling their best-ever win tally in a season. “Obviously, we had a poor start, I think we opted for a drying track and in hindsight, that obviously worked out in our favour.

“I think it was very important to save energy in the beginning of the race because once the track was right, you needed the energy and I think we were a little bit lucky with the red flag at the end because Jake was coming on strong.

“Very, very happy and proud of my team who executed a great race and it is our second win of the season, so very happy. The energy was pretty high in that last lap, so it was mainly about not making any mistakes and keeping it clean, and very happy to after a challenging weekend, difficult circumstances to come out with big points.”
