The Swiss driver set a time of 1m09.21 with ten minutes remaining in the shortened session, which proved unbeatable, even as track conditions continued to improve.
Behind him, Jaguar's Antonio Felix da Costa finished second, ahead of Jake Dennis, Joel Eriksson and Max Günther, who rounded out the top-5.
As it happened…
Due to inclement weather conditions forecast in Shanghai, the Formula E paddock was awake bright and early for 30 minutes of running in Free Practice 2 - the session having moved three hours earlier than previously scheduled.
Drivers made the most of the dry conditions, hitting the track as soon as the session went green. Porsche and customer team Andretti had the early pace, locking out the top four positions on the timing screen. However, they wouldn’t stay there for long as drivers across the field found their rhythm on the Shanghai international Circuit.
With ten minutes remaining, championship contender Edoardo Mortara climbed to the top with a 1m09.21, a time that wouldn’t be beaten. Jaguar TCS Racing’s Antonio Felix da Costa got the closest to the Mahindra driver, four hundreds behind the session topping time.
