Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein came out on top in the opening session of the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix double-header, setting a time of 1m09.259, two tenths ahead of Citroën Racing’s Jean-Eric Vergne

Wehrlein’s teammate Nico Mueller was third, ahead of Nick Cassidy and Edoardo Mortara.

The session was largely dominated by rainy conditions, which forced many teams to abandon their run plans and remain in the pits.

As it happened…

At an overcast Shanghai International Circuit, the first session of the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix weekend kicked off at 16:00 local time.

As a few spots of rain started to fall around the track, drivers were testing the limits, especially in the tight and twisting final sector. By the halfway stage, Porsche looked to be fairing the best with the challenging conditions, topping the times with Pascal Wehrlein - teammate Nico Mueller just behind in third.

Unfortunately for the dedicated Chinese fans who had braved the wet weather, increasing rain forced the drivers to retreat to the pits. Thankfully, conditions cleared a little with just over 10 minutes of FP1 remaining and we were treated to some further running.

However, with less than optimal track conditions, nobody could challenge Wehrlein’s time of 1m09.259. Citroen Racing’s Jean-Eric split the Porsche pair, finishing in second, with Muller five tenths behind.
