TRACK MAP: What does the Shanghai E-Prix look like?

Get to know Formula E's Shanghai circuit ahead of the double-header race weekend on July 4 and 5.

As Season 12 reaches its final six races, the all-electric championship is touching down at another iconic permanent venue: the Shanghai International Circuit.

Masterminded by legendary motorsport architect Hermann Tilke, the track's distinctive silhouette mimics the Chinese character “上” (shang), which translates to "above" or "up."

While originally built for top-tier global motorsport, Formula E will race on a shortened, clockwise layout of the traditional Grand Prix circuit. It packs a demanding mix of high-speed straights and sharp, technical corners, with the crucial ATTACK MODE activation zone strategically placed on the outside of Turn 2's right-hander.

Weather can also be a big variable here, with rain impacting the second race day last season. It makes for fun but challenging conditions, and a circuit that produces some epic overtaking and surprise podium finishers.
