The Sanya Street Circuit is ready to host Formula E again, for the first time in the GEN3 generation. It’s a circuit with some really fast sections, as well as plenty of hairpins. It has had a few tweaks compared to the 2018/19 season, which was won by Jean-Eric Vergne (now Citroën Racing) and was the location of Nissan’s Oliver Rowland’s first Julius Baer Pole Position.
A lap of the Sanya Street Circuit
Compared to last time out, there’s a different layout for the first three corners. These are all left handers, before they go into a wide Turn 5 hairpin. Then it’s a straight up to Turns 6 and 7.

Drivers are then met with a long run down from Turn 7 to the tight hairpin at Turn 9, with a slight kink in the road before it’s a similar journey to Turn 11 before being met with the final 90 degree left-hand corner which takes you to the start-finish straight.
It’s going to be a very quick lap, and offers up plenty of overtaking opportunities!
Winners in Sanya
Two-time champion Jean-Eric Vergne made a crucial race-winning move, catching leader Oliver Rowland by surprise when we last raced here in Season 5. Using his energy management expertise to make the decisive move, Vergne took the victory and held off the competition to take his first win of that season, one he’d later go on to be crowned drivers’ champion in.
