Rowland: "it's every driver’s dream to win in Monaco"

Hear from your Round 10 race winner, Nissan's Oliver Rowland.

Oliver Rowland moves himself up to second in the drivers’ title fight today, after the Nissan pilot took his second victory around the streets of Monte Carlo in Formula E. It was a cool and calculated win, starting eighth, saving energy and moving up the pack in typical Rowland-style.

Speaking after the race, Rowland debriefed his excellent strategy and what it means to win again in Monaco, after doing the same in junior careers and for Nissan in 2025.

“I think it's every driver’s dream to win in Monaco. I managed it in F2, and again last year, and you wonder if it's ever going to happen again. But a really special feeling. I think the way the race went as well, having to be patient, and then kind of attacked towards the end was really nice and super grateful.

“I think it was good because I had to be disciplined in terms of energy. There were a lot of people attacking from very early on, but I think what was a bit better with that race is because they were faster it caused a bit less carnage. So it was actually a bit safer to be where I was.

“It was not the race I expected, to be honest, we had to adapt to it. I mean, I think Nico [Müller] took the ATTACK MODE on lap three or four. He took six minutes, which was a huge shock, I thought, ‘you're going to be pretty lonely out there at some point at the front’.

“The problem is he kind of broke the tow and then second place had no choice but to kind of push back towards him and couldn’t slow the race down too much. I think it was quite a nice race, but I think if the leaders did the race again, they probably wouldn't do the same.

“We have a plan in terms of rough targets and laps that we want to get to. Obviously, the length of the saving phase was increased because of the pace, but I was kind of just sticking to my numbers really, and there wasn’t too much chat really. They were keeping me informed that up on energy and I knew that the targets we were at would make it possible to pass in ATTACK MODE.

“The first two minutes was my choice because I didn't lose a position to take the ATTACK MODE, which I thought was quite important just to get two out of the way and then have the advantage of six with the better energy. Then they told me to go straight in after the Full Course Yellow, so a bit of both.”
