QUALI REPORT: Mortara achieves a record-equalling fourth pole at Tempelhof

Edoardo Mortara managed his fourth Julius Baer Pole Position at the Tempelhof venue, ahead of Round 7 of the 2025/26 Formula E Season.

Mahindra Racing’s Edoardo Mortara achieved his fourth pole at the Tempelhof venue, beating his championship rival Pascal Wehrlein in Porsche in a tense final battle at the German venue. It's a record fourth pole for Mortara here, and his third Julius Baer Pole Position of the season after managing back-to-back poles in Jeddah.

The session was a competitive won, with home hero Pascal Wehrlein tapping his Porsche against the wall during the Quarter Final and damaging his steering. That didn't stop him progressing into the Final, but it proved challenging against Mortara.

Final

The last battle was against the top two championship contenders with Pascal Wehrlein taking on Edoardo Mortara for the shot at pole. This is Wehrlein’s first duel final in the 2026 calendar year, meanwhile this was the third time he’s been in the Final in the last four races.

That extra experience helped Mortara, and he beat Wehrlein to take his fourth pole at this circuit. Four poles at one venue, Tempelhof, is a record that he equals with Wehrlein for the most poles at a single venue, with Wehrlein having four poles at the Mexico City venue.

Semi Finals

The first Semis Duel was against two champions, with Pascal Wehrlein against Oliver Rowland. It was a close call between the two but it was home hero Wehrlein who was the better of the two despite earlier reporting an issue with his steering after contact with a wall.

Ticktum took on Edoardo Mortara, but the Swiss got the better time and managed to proceed into the Final. This is already guaranteed to be Mortara’s fifth top-four start in seven races this season, and he is on the hunt for a fourth pole at this circuit.

Quarter Finals

The first Duel was Oliver Rowland against Felipe Drugovich, but the Andretti driver had an early mistake into Turn 2 which immediately handed the advantage to the reigning champ Rowland. It was the Nissan driver who sailed into the Semis.

Then it was Nick Cassidy and Pascal Wehrlein, and despite getting the better lap time, Wehrlein radioed that he tapped the wall on his lap and damaged his steering by 10 to 20 degrees. That didn’t stop him from being rapid, and set the better time over former Berlin E-Prix winner Cassidy.

Next was Zane Maloney in his first Duels appearance, but he was against Edoardo Mortara who has already picked up two poles this year. Despite giving it his all in the Lola Yamaha ABT, Maloney was beaten by Mortara.

The final Quarter Finals were a battle against Nico Müller and Dan Ticktum, but an early error sent Müller wide and gave an advantage to Ticktum who progressed into the Semis for the first time since Mexico City earlier this season.

Group A

Pascal Wehrlein (Porsche) was top of his group, as the German felt the full force of his home support in Berlin. The time, a 58.369s, was two-tenths clear of the next best which was Felipe Drugovich for Andretti, followed by reigning champ Oliver Rowland (Nissan) and Nick Cassidy (Citroën Racing) getting the final slots in the Duels.

Just missing out was Taylor Barnard of DS PENSKE who had looked quick all weekend, topping FP1, with Jean-Eric Vergne (Citroën Racing) furious at finishing in eighth.

Group B

CUPRA KIRO’s Dan Ticktum went quickest of the second group, closely followed by Edoardo Mortara for Mahindra Racing.

A real surprise result came in the shape of Zane Maloney, who made his first Duel appearance in his Formula E career. His best start before today has been ninth, which he got in Mexico and Monaco last season, but this will be his first shot at the one-lap shootout. His teammate Lucas di Grassi tapped the wall and ended his session early.

Nico Müller got the final Duel slot, meaning both Porsches were through to the next round of quali. It was however a big shock, with both Jaguars missing out on the Duels.
