It's On! The hidden gems and Formula E easter eggs

To celebrate our 10th year of all-electric racing, we’ve put together a special video to get your excitement levels up ahead of the season opener in Mexico City on 13 January.

Have you seen our latest ‘It’s On’ campaign yet? We’re buzzing for Season 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, and you should be too! Formula E is home to some of the best entertainment you’ll see in motorsport, with 1,474 overtakes counted last season alone! In addition to the fantastic on-track action, we’ve also got a grid packed with the best drivers who race in the most incredible locations around the world.

Did you spot the cheeky easter eggs we included?

The lucky cat

Previously known as NIO, ERT Formula E team is represented by this precious figure in the video. The lucky cat, which is often associated with Chinese culture, is present on the desk of the shop and links to the Chinese team who are based from Silverstone. Did you know that Formula E is returning to China in Season 10? We’re heading to Shanghai for an awesome double-header in May.

The trident

Placed in the same shot of the lucky cat, a traditional trident stands proud. The weapon, which is often linked to Greek and Roman mythology, is depicted on the Maserati MSG Racing logo. The logo was designed by Mario Maserati, with rumour suggesting he’d seen a statue of Neptune holding a trident and took inspiration. Its iconic design has been featured on every racing or road-going car throughout the team’s history, including when they joined Formula E in Season 9.

The Formula E car model

Also on the busy desk, sits a small scale Formula E model. It’s only tiny, but we love its appearance amongst all the chaos on his counter. Gotta make way for the best looking race cars in motorsport, right?

The Speedy Kiwi

Whilst observing the incredible racing action on the very retro TV, you’ll be forgiven for missing the sneaky Kiwi statue on the left-hand side. The orange sculpture peaks out from behind the cabinet, a symbol strongly associated with McLaren. First designed in 1964, the Kiwi bird on the team’s logo is a national bird for New Zealand, the homeland of founder Bruce McLaren! The iconic motorsport team joined Formula E last season ahead of the brilliant GEN3 era.

The green bulldog statue

Taking centre stage on one of the shelves of the busy shop sits a Bulldog statue, in a striking green – the same colour as Teams’ Champions, Envision Racing. Envision, who have been a key part of the championship ever since the very first race, managed to take home the title thanks to the efforts of Nick Cassidy and Sebastien Buemi in Season 9.

The Eiffel Tower

A landmark of French culture, the Parisian Eiffel Tower links back to DS who are partnered with the PENSKE team. DS Automobiles joined the electric championship back in Season 2, and last year celebrated their 100th race with a unique gold livery in Indonesia. Several drivers have represented the manufacturer over the years including champions Jean-Eric Vergne, Antonio Felix da Costa and Stoffel Vandoorne.

We also raced in Paris between 2016 and 2019 - the first race series to do so. The circuit weaved around the architectural complex of Les Invalides, close to the banks of the River Seine, the course was located just across the river from the Champs Elysee and a stones throw from many other major Paris landmarks.

Swiss driver Sebastien Buemi took the spoils in the inaugural Paris E-Prix, while the home crowd cheered on Parisian racer Jean-Eric Vergne to the victory in 2018, en route to the eventual championship.

The Prancing Horse

Another manufacturer that is represented in the film is Porsche. The German giant proudly displays a prancing house on its logo as it was also on the coat of arms of the former state of Weimar, Germany and its capital, Stuttgart – where Porsche was founded. Today, the TAG Heuer Porsche squad show off the iconic logo on their 99X Electric.

The Jaguar

To the right of the horse, a prowling Jaguar statue makes an appearance. This has links to… you guessed it… the Jaguar TCS Racing team. The British manufacturer made a big return to motorsport with Formula E in Season 3, and has never looked back. 12 wins,  32 podiums and seven Julius Baer Pole Positions later, and the team have never looked stronger.

The Hankook record

For GEN3, Hankook became the new and exclusive Technical Partner and TyreSupplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. So, it was only fitting that the iON race tyre made a cameo in the video. Did you spot it? On the record player sits a vinyl which houses the tyre beautifully. We think this one could be our favourite Easter Egg of the lot.

Be sure to watch the film above to see how many more Easter Eggs you can find in our new ‘It’s On’ campaign!
