Evans buoyed by pace, points and post-quali recovery

Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) was the only one of the pre-London top four to score in the SABIC London E-Prix Round 13 aside from second-placed Stoffel Vandoorne, who managed to extend his points margin to 26 with that trip to the podium.

Evans failed to make the Duels and paid the price for starting mid-pack, despite what he felt was competitive pace given how effectively he was able to slice through the pack to an eventual sixth position and eight points.

There's work to do tomorrow to reel the Belgian in, and the Jaguar driver is confident it can be done if the team nail qualifying.

"I’m happy with that," said the 28-year-old. "After my mistake in qualifying, we were on the back foot and it’s a solid bag of points for us and I’d have said yes to P6 and eight points before the race. It was a tough one and very hard to manage because it’s hard to overtake at this type of track. The car felt really good. It’s got a lot of pace and it was just that mistake in qualifying that’s cost us. It would be nice to start further up the front tomorrow and hopefully we can have a better day.

"I’ve moved up to second which is positive but Stoffel’s had a very good day and was able to extend his lead but there are still three big races left and a lot of points up for grabs. He’s got a bit of a gap but we’re still very much in the mix and I’m not too worried about it as long as we do our best I’m sure we can close it up.

"Mercedes are operating at a really high level this weekend, so we’ll come back strongly tomorrow. Our race pace was really strong considering who we were overtaking and pulling away from. The main thing is qualifying, and it’s been our Achilles heel this year."
