Formula E and Street Child Launch New Fund to Protect Children’s Education

Formula E and Street Child announce a new fund to protect children's education from the impacts of climate change.

Formula E, the world’s first all-electric motorsport, today announces a new partnership with international education charity Street Child to co-found the Climate Response Accelerator Fund — a rapid-response initiative to rebuild schools in Sierra Leone damaged by extreme storms linked to climate change. This partnership builds on existing support from Liberty Global, majority shareholder of Formula E and a long-standing partner of Street Child.

The Fund will enable urgent repairs to classrooms and school facilities in remote communities, helping thousands of children safely return to learning after storms and floods have destroyed or severely damaged their schools. Formula E will make an initial financial contribution to launch the fund, alongside shared marketing and awareness efforts to raise additional funds across Formula E’s ecosystem.

Jeff Dodds, CEO of Formula E, said: “At Formula E, we believe sport has the power to create positive change — for people and for the planet. Through this partnership with Street Child, we’re extending our commitment to sustainability beyond just the track, helping protect children’s right to education in communities already feeling the impacts of climate change.

The Climate Response Accelerator Fund reflects what Formula E stands for: driving real-world solutions for a more resilient future. Climate change isn’t only an environmental issue - it disrupts daily lives, including education, and threatens opportunities for the next generation. Together, we’re acting to protect every child’s right to learn.”

In Sierra Leone and across West Africa, rising temperatures and increasingly erratic rainfall are threatening the futures of children. Heavy storms are washing away school buildings, destroying learning materials, and forcing closures that can last months. For children in fragile settings, every day out of school puts their futures at risk. The longer they are excluded, the less likely they are to return.

That’s where Street Child steps in. With over 15 years of experience working in some of the world’s most challenging environments — from conflict-affected Nigeria to cyclone-hit Mozambique and the frontlines of Ukraine — Street Child ensures that children in crisis can access education. The charity’s local partners in Sierra Leone will identify the most urgently affected schools, coordinate repairs with communities, and ensure safe, rapid returns to learning.

Tom Dannatt, CEO at Street Child, said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with Formula E to launch the Climate Response Accelerator Fund. In Sierra Leone and beyond, climate-related disasters are leaving children without safe places to learn. This fund will help communities rebuild quickly and get children back to school where they belong. This fund is an exciting first step in taking our partnership with Formula E to the next level, and shows how the private sector can play a vital role in responding swiftly and meaningfully when children’s futures are at risk.”
