Season 10 champion Pascal Wehrlein topped the timing sheets for Free Practice 2 in São Paulo, after the cancellation of yesterday’s Free Practice 1 session. The Porsche driver set a time of 1m09.853s in a session largely dominated by the two Mahindras.

With four different teams ending the session in the top-five, and qualifying only a few hours away, everything is up for grabs at the 2025 Google Cloud São Paulo E-Prix.

PREVIEW: Everything you need to know about the sizzling São Paulo season-opener for Season 12

As it happened

Following yesterday’s cancellation of Free Practice 1, race day in São Paulo got underway with an extended Free Practice 2 session. Teams and drivers were eager to make the most of the track time, with all 20 cars heading out as soon as the session went green.

The Mahindra’s of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara found early pace, topping the timing charts in the opening 15 minutes of the session. The pair had impressed at pre-season testing, with the Mahindra machine looking competitive and ending the test with the fastest overall lap.

New drivers in the field, Felipe Drugovich and Pepe Marti, didn’t waste any time in getting up to speed. Home hero Drugovich looked comfortable in his Andretti machine, testing the limits of the track and quickly matching his teammate Jake Dennis in lap time. Meanwhile, Marti was forced to abort one of his early laps and take to the escape road, after finding the limits in his Lola Yamaha ABT.

Reigning ABB FIA Formula E World Champion, Oliver Rowland, led the session at the halfway stage, but it didn’t last for long as the Mahindra pair once again rose to the top and dominated the session until the closing stages.

Dan Ticktum looked set to spoil the 1-2 result, seizing the top spot with five minutes remaining, but it was ultimately the Porsche of Wehrlein who spoiled it for the Mahindra duo and finished the session with a 1m09.853.
