Dennis doubles up with quickest time in FP2

Dennis doubles up with quickest time in FP2

Jake Dennis (BMW i Andretti Motorsport) made it two from two as he topped the timesheets in Free Practice 2 ahead of the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium Round 14, having led the way in the first session of the weekend on Friday afternoon.

BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Jake Dennis doubled up with the benchmark time in Free Practice 2 ahead of qualifying for the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium Round 14, after the Brit set the pace in the first session of the event on Friday afternoon.

The 26-year-old put pen to paper on a new contract at Andretti ahead of the race weekend and the rookie is right in the hunt for the Drivers' World Championship, just 14 points from standings leader Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ), who managed the third fastest time in FP2.

Lucas di Grassi's still in the hunt for top honours, too, and Audi like BMW are aiming to end their current spell in Formula E on a high. The 2016/17 champion managed the second quickest time of the session, though 0.154 seconds back.

Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) wound up fourth, Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein fifth and Dennis' BMW teammate Maximilian Guenther - a race winner here in Berlin last season - sixth.

WAYS TO WATCH: Where and how to watch every minute of Season 7

It's still incredibly close, too. With 18 drivers in the hunt for the title, you wouldn't expect anything less, would you? Twenty three of the 24 drivers on the grid sit within a second, after the full complement were split by the same gap yesterday.

More than just lap times

Lap times aren't the only focus in practice. Drivers and engineers will be working flat out to understand things like energy management profiles and setup ahead of qualifying and the race later in the day.

On top of energy management, teams work through everything from their systems, setups, FANBOOST and ATTACK MODE deployments and launches throughout practice to make sure they're on-point when it counts.

So, a clear picture of true pace is usually pretty tricky to come by and there’s plenty of scope for all-change in qualifying ahead of the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium Round 14 at 10:00, and in the race itself at 14:00.
