At a crucial point in the season, the World Championship is shaping up to be a close fight with Stoffel Vandoorne currently leading the standings. Jean-Eric Vergne, Edoardo Mortara and Mitch Evans - winner of the previous race in the first ever Jakarta - close behind. Mercedes-EQ currently top the Team Standings with Vergne’s DS TECHEETAH, Mortara’s ROKiT Venturi Racing and Evans’ Jaguar TCS Racing hunting them down.

Last time out in Marrakesh in 2020, Antonio Felix da Costa triumphed after a wheel-to-wheel combat with Maximilian Guenther. The Portuguese driver crossed the chequered flag more than 11 seconds clear of the German driver. Da Costa’s teammate Vergne rounded off the podium in third. The Frenchman drove a superb race around the streets of the Moroccan capital, battling through sickness to secure third position after starting from 11th on the grid.

Formula E Marrakesh track map 2022

The 2022 circuit follows the layout of the Circuit International Automobile Moulay El Hassan - named after the Crown Prince of Morocco - before spilling out onto the streets of Marrakesh's hotel district. The 2.971km-track features 12 turns, three straights and a series of bends and is well known for being one of the most technical and energy demanding circuits on the Formula E calendar. The drivers will also be challenged by extreme heat conditions as they battle it out in the Agdal district of Marrakesh.

“Coming back to Marrakesh for the fifth time since the start of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship is both special and incredibly exciting," said Alberto Longo, Co-Founder & Chief Championship Officer.

"It is a place that we have come to know very well, but with the technical track and extreme weather conditions it continues to provide fans and drivers with a thrilling spectacle.”

“The championship at the moment is forming into a classic, with great rivalries in the top order, as well as some fantastic battles further down the standing. Fans are in for a great race in Marrakesh and we can’t wait to be back in such a vibrant and interesting city.”

To ensure the attendees health and safety during the 2022 Marrakesh E-Prix, Formula E in accordance with the local authorities has deemed necessary to reduce the capacity on-site with limited grandstand seats available and no paddock entertainment - only the race and podium ceremony will be accessible to the public.
