Winners of Formula E's Talent Call for Young Filmmakers announced

As the second initiative from our #PositivelyCharged commitment to create Electric Futures for the next generation, Formula E’s Talent Call for Young Filmmakers offered aspiring content creators the opportunity to join our team for a special filming project at the opening race of Season 8.

With a competitive line up of applicants from across the UK and USA, the field was eventually narrowed down to just two talented filmmaking pairs. The finalists were then invited to join us at the 2021 Heineken London E-Prix, where they were tasked with completing one last challenge: to film, produce and edit a compelling short film documenting the final 24 hour build-up to the race with the ROKiT Venturi Racing team.

Our expert panel of judges; documentary photographer, film-maker and campaigner Alice Aedy and film director Marcus Soderlund, who also directed Formula E’s Change.Accelerated brand film, met to review the content. After tough deliberation, they ultimately selected Abby Bertram and Martha Douhne as the well-deserved winners of the competition.

The campaign targeted Gen Z applicants, no matter their previous filmmaking experience, with an understanding of the dynamic, fresh filming style next generation racing fans desire.

Abby Gail Bertram said “Blessed is an understatement. I feel very fortunate to be able to be a part of this competition and meet so many tremendous people whilst on this journey. My dream has always been to travel and create video content; attending London and the Talent Call has sparked that dream and now winning this competition is fuelling the fire for my passion of filmmaking. I am very excited to get to work alongside the Formula E media team and learn everything I can from them!”

Martha Douhne added: "I am thrilled beyond belief to have the honour of winning this competition. The prospect of working with the brilliant media team at Formula E has inspired and energized me. I am more ready and determined than ever to bring my talents and vision to help advance the missions of Formula E and lay the foundation for my future as a content producer in Season 8. There’s so much energy in the quickly developing arena of Formula E and I am excited to play a role!”

Henry Chilcott, Formula E Chief Brand Officer said: “Talent Call is all about breaking down the traditional barriers in motorsport to bring opportunity to a diverse Gen Z talent pool. Last year’s competition gave us Derin who’s gone on to become a talented part of our brilliant presenting team attending many of our races in Season 7. Now, one year on, we’re delighted to be able to give Abby and Martha the opportunity to join us in Diriyah for a unique and exciting film making project at our Season 8 opener – congratulations to them both!”
