BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Maximilian Guenther set the fastest time of the day so far at a chilly Circuit Ricardo Tormo, with his 1m26.958s enough to see him head Mahindra Racing's Alex Lynn and Mercedes-EQ driver Nyck de Vries.
Guenther's historically enjoyed his visits to Valencia, with Formula E heading to Spain on four occasions for its official pre-season test - the young German topping the timesheets on the previous two trips. He ended Free Practice 1 in second spot, and went one better here to tee up qualifying nicely.

It was another ultra-close session, with the top three split by less than 0.050 seconds and just half-a-second separated the first 15 runners.
Reigning champion Antonio Felix da Costa (DS TECHEETAH) followed in fourth just 0.083 seconds back while Nissan e.dams'Oliver Rowland and Rene Rast (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) rounded out the top six.
Standings leader Sam Bird (Jaguar Racing) finds himself down in 13th spot with a bit to do and teammate Mitch Evans is 19th. Jaguar didn't have such a good time of it here back at testing and the British outfit looks like it has some work to do if it's to remain the pacesetter in the Teams' table.
More than just lap times
For all the talk of lap times, though, they aren’t always the goal in practice.
Teams work through everything from their systems, setups, FANBOOST and ATTACK MODE deployments, launches and energy management profiles throughout practice to make sure they're on-point for qualifying and the race later in the day, and that the hours of simulator work they carry out ahead of every Formula E event make sense in the real world.
Engineers are also working to understand how the changes to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo have affected their preparation - with a chicane and a couple of amended apexes to contend with as opposed to the circuit they lapped at length back at testing last year.
Qualifying ahead of the DHL Valencia E-Prix Round 5 is up next at at 11:00 UTC and the race itself follows at 15:00.
