QUALI: Ticktum secures stunning pole position in Monaco

Here’s how qualifying went down ahead of Round 9 in Monaco.

Dan Ticktum achieved his second Julius Baer Pole Position in Formula E, doing so around the streets of Monte Carlo. It’s a circuit he’s always loved, and won here in previous categories, but was able to convert that passion and pace into the all-important pole position. In a special partnership with Amazon MGM Studios to promote the release of its upcoming feature film, Masters of the Universe, the blue-purple livery stormed to pole with Ticktum.

He went up against Mahindra Racing's Nyck de Vries, but depsite a prang on the barriers Ticktum flew to pole by over a tenth of a second.

Final

Dan Ticktum went up against Nyck de Vries for the chance at pole, with Ticktum almost clipping the barriers coming out of the casino. That didn’t stop him from chasing pole, and managed to get the better lap between him and de Vries.

Semi Finals

The first Semi Final was packed with drama, with Maximilian Guenther going up against Dan Ticktum for a spot in the Final. Both drivers had little hiccups on their laps, with small mistakes and tapping the barriers at various points on their respective laps. However it was Ticktum who progressed into a guaranteed front-row space.

Next up it was Mitch Evans and Nyck de Vries, with the Mahindra driver making it through to the Final. The pace of that car has looked rapid today, and is definitely one to watch for the race later.

Quarter Finals

First up was Nico Müller versus Maximilian Guenther for their first meeting in the Duels. Müller has never started higher than 14th in Monaco, but getting into the Quarters guaranteed a start in the top eight today. He was unable to beat Guenther, who progressed into the Semis.

Next was Dan Ticktum and Pascal Wehrlein, with two Porsche powertrains. Despite having achieved pole here in 2024, Wehrlein wasn’t able to get the better time and it was the CUPRA KIRO of Ticktum.

Antonio Felix da Costa made a rare mistake at Mirabeau to hand the third Quarters victory to Nyck de Vries.

Then the final slot was with Joel Eriksson against Mitch Evans, with the Envision driver making the Duels on his first appearance in the principality. It was Evans who was the better of the duo, with the two teams sharing powertrains.

Group A

Pascal Wehrlein was the top of his session, setting a time of 1m28.832s and getting a spot in the Duels. He was joined by his Porsche teammates Nico Müller, who finished third, with Maximilian Guenther of DS PENSKE in the team sandwich.

Dan Ticktum took the final spot in the top four, with just 0.060s between them. Former winner here Jean-Eric Vergne was fifth, with last season’s winner Sebastien Buemi (Envision) finishing down in eighth.

There was a mechanical issue for Edoardo Mortara, which meant he wasn’t able to leave the garage at all and failed to set a lap time. It’s a big knock back, especially given the team’s pace so far today.

Group B

Mitch Evans was the quickest of his group for Jaguar TCS Racing, with only 0.038s between him and Nyck de Vries for the top spot. Evans’ teammate Antonio Felix da Costa was third for the Jaguar team, with Joel Eriksson making a surprise appearance in fourth for the Duels.

The Envision driver has never raced here in any racing series, so is experiencing the track for the first time today.

Oliver Rowland (Nissan) and Nick Cassidy) were knocked out in sixth and ninth respectively.
