QUALI REPORT: Wehrlein seals home pole for Porsche in Berlin

Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein secured his second Julius Baer Pole Position of the year in front of his home crowd.

Pascal Wehrlein continued the run of Porsche success in Berlin, as he secured the Julius Baer Pole Position for Round 8 of the 2025/26 season. It’s been a strong weekend for the German manufacturer this weekend, who celebrate their 75th motorsport anniversary, after their win with Nico Müller yesterday.

Wehrlein was up against DS PENSKE’s Taylor Barnard in the Final, who will start alongside on the front-row and gets his best-ever start at the Tempelhof circuit. Joel Eriksson achieved a career-best qualifying result by reaching the Semi-Finals for Envision Racing, whilst Citroën teammates Nick Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne both progressed from Group A to face each other in the Quarter-Finals, with Cassidy coming out on top.

Final

Pascal Wehrlein went up against Taylor Barnard in the Final Duel, and it was the Porsche driver who got the better time. This now puts him within one point of championship leader Edoardo Mortara (Mahindra Racing), and is his second pole in the German capital.

Semi Finals

It was the first meeting for Barnard and Cassidy in the Duels, with both drivers in the Semi Finals for only the second time this season. Barnard was already guaranteed a best-ever Tempelhof start, with his previous best being seventh last year, but made it into the Final.

Eriksson was already guaranteed a career-best start, and went up against Pascal Wehrlein. Unfortunately for the Envision driver, a small mistake early on impacted his flying lap and handed the victory to Wehrlein by almost half a second.

Quarter Finals

First up was Felipe Drugovich versus Taylor Barnard, and it was Barnard who won the Duel. It was the first time Drugovich has reached the Duels in consecutive races in his career, whereas Barnard is in the Duels for the fourth time this season.

Teammates took on each other next, as both Citroën Racing drivers went head-to-head. Nick Cassidy set the better time against Jean-Eric Vergne, with it being the first time since the manufacturer entered Formula E that the two fought against each other.

Zane Maloney then took on Joel Eriksson, with this being one of the least-experienced Duels in the history of the format, with each driver having only competed in one previous Duel in their careers. Maloney’s first career Duel was only yesterday, and it was Eriksson who got the better time to progress into the Semis.

Last up in the Quarters was Pascal Wehrlein against his former Porsche teammate Antonio Felix da Costa. Despite Da Costa’s success here before, it was Wehrlein who soared into the next stages as he aimed to get pole for Porsche at home.

Group A

Nick Cassidy was quickest of his group, and was joined in the top four by his Citroën Racing teammate Jean-Eric Vergne who also got into the Duels by qualifying fourth. They were both joined by Taylor Barnard who was second and Felipe Drugovich who was third.

Several big names were knocked out, including yesterday’s pole sitter Edoardo Mortara. The Mahindra Racing driver was looking to set the record for most poles at a single venue in Formula E’s history, but a small mistake on his final flying lap saw him kiss the wall and lose time.

Yesterday’s race winner Nico Müller (Porsche) was sixth, clearly frustrated with the performance with reigning World Champion Olover Rowland (Nissan) in ninth.

Group B

Antonio Felix da Costa sailed into the Duels with a time of 58.439s, over a tenth quicker than the next best driver that was Joel Eriksson. It was a mega session for the Envision driver, who made his Formula E debut here back in Season 10, as well as Zane Maloney who made it into the Duels for the second consecutive race. Pascal Wehrlein took the final spot in the Duels.

Both CUPRA KIROs finished last in their two separate sessions, with Pepe Martí only getting once chance at a lap.
