BCN World, Europe’s largest Leisure Centre, is to become the leading sponsor of the FIA Formula E Championship.
All 20 drivers competing in the new fully-electric racing series will now be competing for the overall prize of the FIA Formula E BCN World Cup. BCN World will also be the sponsor of each ePrix cup that goes to the top-three drivers.
Locate south of Barcelona, BCN World is a city of entertainment, business and tourism with hotels, casinos and shopping centres. It will also become a landmark of entertainment in Europe with the first Ferrari Park in Europe currently under construction.
Formula E, the world’s first all-electric racing series, host its inaugural race tomorrow on a temporary street circuit around the iconic Beijing Olympic Stadium (Bird’s Nest). The series, officially launched back in August 2013, is designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans, whilst accelerating the interest in electric vehicles and promoting sustainability. The calendar sees the 10 teams and 20 drivers competing solely in city-centres around the world including Buenos Aires, Miami and London using single-seater cars capable of speeds in excess of 150mph (225kph).
The announcement was made during the official pre-event press conference held in the paddock of the Beijing ePrix with Xavier Adsera from BCN World and Alejandro Agag, CEO of Formula E.
The first ever Formula E race gets underway tomorrow (September 13).
