Evans 'more determined than ever' ahead of Shanghai E-Prix

Jaguar TCS Racing will be wanting to extend their lead in both the Drivers’ and Teams’ World Championships in China.

Fresh from what Team Boss James Barclay labels as the team’s “most successful weekend in Formula E” in Berlin, Jaguar drivers Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy will want to help build on the 237 championship points they’ve tallied up for the team over the first 10 rounds.

For Evans, the Shanghai weekend started in unusual style when he drove his all-electric Jaguar I-TYPE 6 race car along The Bund, a famous landmark in Shanghai. In doing so, he also became the first to drive an all-electric race car along the iconic waterfront landmark, which boasts some incredible views of the city’s skyline.

CIRCUIT: What does the Shanghai E-Prix circuit look like?

“I found Berlin challenging in that, despite being a front-runner across both races, I just missed out on securing podiums,” Mitch Evans said when reviewing Rounds 9 and 10 in the German capital earlier this month. The New Zealander finished fourth and sixth across both races, despite being in the fight for a podium and even the victory.

“I’m working closely with the team to be best prepared for the upcoming rounds in Shanghai. Returning to China will be a special moment for the team and there’s lots of excitement to be back there. I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve across the two days of racing, and am feeling more determined than ever.”

Evans made headlines when he was finally able to stand on the top step of the podium in Monaco this season, after years of trying and coming close. As well as a second-place in São Paulo he picked up a Julius Baer Pole Position in Misano, and currently sits fifth in the standings.

INTERVIEW: Championship leader Cassidy on his 'rollercoaster' season so far

“We are excited to return to racing in China, a country that is incredibly important for Jaguar and has many new motorsport fans,” Team Principal James Barclay previewed ahead of the very first Shanghai E-Prix. “This year, we’ll be competing at the Shanghai International Circuit and we’re looking forward to the challenge that brings.”

For championship leader Nick Cassidy, this double-header is another chance at a double podium. The new Jaguar signing for Season 10 currently has two wins and seven podiums in the first 10 races of the year as we approach the final few rounds of the championship.

HISTORY: Looking back through Formula E's key moments

“I had my most successful double-header weekend in Berlin, with two podiums and two fastest laps,” the World Championship leader added. “The season now continues, and we know that in this sport nothing is guaranteed. So, in Shanghai I want to continue with that momentum to give me the best chance of remaining at the top of the leaderboard. A new track presents new challenges but I’m ready with the team to take them on.”
