Bird ready to 'bounce back' in Portland

Fresh from another podium finish in Jakarta, Jaguar TCS Racing are ready to tackle the inaugural Southwire Portland E-Prix and replicate their earlier success this season. As they sit third in the team standings’ and are just 43 points behind TAG Heuer Porsche at the top, they’re depending on the last five rounds to be filled with big results.

Speaking about the new Portland International Raceway track, which has previously hosted the likes of IndyCar and NASCAR, Team Principal James Barclay is looking forward to racing on the final new circuit of the season.

“Everyone at Jaguar TCS Racing is looking forward to being back in the United States and racing on US soil. Racing in Portland will bring the thrill of Formula E to a new audience and we embrace the challenges and opportunities that come with this high-speed and technical track.

“Coming into the final rounds of the 2023 season, we understand what we need to deliver to stay in the championship fight. Naturally teams will start to feel some pressure and intensity rise at this stage, instead we are focussed on our approach, strategy and the objective which is to execute the best performance that we can.”

Last time out in Jakarta, the team had a weekend filled with both highs and lows over the double header, as Mitch Evans found himself on the podium in race two, but on the Saturday both drivers finished with no championship points. What is made worse is that it was Sam Bird who had another clash with his teammate, and sent him spinning out of the race - the second time this has happened this season.

“I’m ready to bounce back after Jakarta, it was a frustrating weekend for me, so I am determined to make up the points for myself and the team,” Bird said ahead of the weekend.

“I really enjoy racing in the States and I’ve had some strong performances this season, so I’m hoping to replicate those again in Portland.”

Evans, who currently places fourth in the Drivers’ World Championship standings, reflected on his third place in the Indonesian capital and the new experience the drivers will have Stateside.

“I was pleased to come away from Jakarta with a podium and some points, and hope to keep building momentum in Portland as we reach the final three locations,” Evans stated.

“I’m looking forward to the new track, it’s well-known in American motorsport categories so it will be great to bring Formula E to this circuit for the first time. I can’t wait to get out there and keep my sights on the top spot!”
