Cassidy: "Sao Paulo was Formula E at its best"

Envision Racing's Nick Cassidy is on track to have his best-ever Formula E season yet, and currently sits third in the Drivers' World Championship after his third consecutive podium result.

Envision Racing's Nick Cassidy is on a roll. With three podiums in the last three consecutive races, the Kiwi is on track to have his best-ever Formula E season. Currently third in the Drivers' World Championship, Cassidy is on 61 points, just seven points shy of his Season 8 total, six rounds into a 16-race calendar.

Having led several times during the championship's first visit to Brazil, Cassidy had to ultimately settle for second, with Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans getting first place.

"I said I'd be super happy with a podium today," Cassidy told Formula E's pit lane reporter, Nicki Shields, after his top three result in Sao Paulo. "With a race like that, you can't not be happy, right? That was Formula E at its best. So much fun for me in the car. I hope it was a good watch."

It was a good watch, with it going down as one of Formula E's most entertaining events in its nine-season history. With Cassidy attempting a last lap attempt for the victory, the Envision driver also had to keep Jaguar's Sam Bird back, who had two percent more energy than the top two, having fought his way up the grid from 10th.

"I knew [how much energy Sam had], and that was the reason for getting Mitch to go. I knew getting the win would be pretty difficult. I'd have to do something special on Mitch to turn that around, but I was at a high risk of being third.

"Look, we all want to win. So I tried my best to win, but that's where the cookie crumbled. We got one of the best outcomes.

Reflecting on his past seasons, having made his 37th career start in Sao Paulo, Cassidy believes that he can see the improvements he's making.

"It's all positive stuff—full credit to Jaguar, but also to Envision and my guys. I've been pushing so hard and giving them ideas, and they're really listening to me. They're taking it on board and giving me the freedom to go in my direction and do my thing. That helps, and I'm very lucky to be in that position too.

"I worked hard on myself. Just trying to work on my approach, work on consistency, like you say to be better. I've been very up and down in the last two seasons showing great speed, but it's not always about popping purples. Happy with the approach, and there's a long way to go. And so that's something that I need to keep on top of and keep working on."
