Formula E, DHL and NYC Parks partner in tree planting initiative

The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, DHL and NYC Parks have partnered to leave a positive legacy behind after the New York City E-Prix.

Formula E aims to leave a positive impact at every race location on the calendar and in New York City's Red Hook district, NYC Parks have conducted research to place trees where they're most needed and impactful.

DHL Tree Planting - New York City

Red Hook is one of the most underserved neighbourhoods in all of New York City and it's particularly suceptible to poor air quality and flooding. So, the 50 trees being planted will have a noticeable benefit. In one year, at planting size before they've grown further, they will:

  • Intercept 4700 gallons of stormwater
  • Conserve 5650kWh of energy
  • Remove 11.43lbs of air pollutants
  • Remove 2025 tons of CO2

Over the past four visits to NYC, Formula E has cleaned up the Hudson River by removing rubbish and plastic waste and planted a host of trees in similarly suceptible neighbourhoods. Oliver Turvey (NIO 333 Racing) and Alexander Sims (Mahindra Racing) were on hand with their shovels to do the honours this year.
