Adam Carroll joins NIO 333 as reserve driver for 2021

Adam Carroll joins NIO 333 as reserve driver for 2021

Experienced multi-discipline racer Adam Carroll will join NIO 333 as its reserve driver for the 2020/21 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

Adam Carroll will head to the opening round of the 2021 ABB Formula E World Championship in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia this month (February 26 & 27) as reserve criver for NIO 333.

The Ulsterman is no stranger to Formula E, having made his debut with Jaguar Racing back in 2016, and he has competed across a number of leading series since his open-wheel debut in 1999 in British F3. Spells in GP2 Series, FIA World Endurance Championship, DTM, British GT Championship, European Le Mans Series and IndyCar followed.

Among Carroll's career highlights are the 2009 A1 Grand Prix Series title and the performances in the 2005 GP2 Series - now Formula 2, the junior category of Formula 1 - that secured him a spot on BAR Honda's junior driver programme.

Having spent Season 3 of Formula E with Jaguar, where he scored two top ten finishes, Carroll returned to sportscar racing and will dovetail his NIO 333 duties with a season of GT racing in 2021.

“I'm very happy to be joining NIO 333 FE Team as reserve driver," said Carroll, who has been racking up the miles around the Diriyah circuit on NIO's DIL simulator. "Formula E is a fascinating championship that's extremely high level and technically complex. It's been interesting to see how the cars and systems have developed since I last raced in the series, and the NIO 333 team is pushing very hard for the coming season. I look forward to the challenge ahead.”

Christian Silk, NIO 333 Team Principal, added: “Not only is Adam a very talented racing driver, but he is also a good friend of the team. The role of Reserve Driver is obviously very important to us and I am very grateful that we have such a safe pair of hands in this key position. I am sure I speak for the whole team when I say we are looking forward to working with Adam again.”
