Da Costa: 'We're coming back swinging'

Da Costa: 'We're coming back swinging'

DS TECHEETAH's Season 6 champion Antonio Felix da Costa has vowed he and the team will "come back swinging" in 2021/22 after a campaign that, though strong, didn't quite hit the high notes the multiple title winners had achieved in seasons past.

The team finished third and 15 points shy of champions Mercedes-EQ, with Da Costa managing three podiums - including a stunning last-lap race win in Monaco - on his way to eighth in the Drivers' World Championship while Jean-Eric Vergne wound up 10th.

Da Costa is keen for the squad to build back towards the dominance of its Teams' title double and Drivers' hat-trick purple patch.

"So far, so good," said the Portuguese, on testing in Valencia. "We’ve been going through a lot of test items and things that we’ve been working on from last year that needed to be improved.

"This is a group of people that always works with ambition. We’re not here to take part, we’re here to win."

"The team is running smoothly, and everyone’s super hungry to come back swinging. It’s an important few days for us.

FEATURE: What is testing?

"This is a group of people that always works with ambition. We’re not here to take part, we’re here to win. We’re up against a lot of things, so it’s going to require our best efforts to deliver.

"JEV is still there and JEV is great. We get along really well. Even though we’ve been through a bit of a restructuring phase, 95% of the people are the same – even more. We know exactly what we need to work on and everything’s looking good."
