Formula E’s Social Impact Surges 241% as Championship Generates €5.6 Million in Estimated Social Value Across Global Race Cities during the 2024/25 Season

Formula E has released its 2024/25 Season Sustainability Report, highlighting a 241% year-over-year surge in social impact. Anchored by the Championship’s social impact strategy, the report demonstrates how electric racing translates purpose on the track into measurable social value in host cities.

Sustainability Report Lead Asset

As a Progressive Challenger refusing to compromise on performance or impact, Formula E operates where innovation and adrenaline collide. Rather than treating sustainability as a separate obligation or a compromise, the Championship embeds it directly into the spectacle, proving that doing good and going fast go hand in hand. During the 2024/25 Season, Formula E positively impacted 86,007 people—more than tripling its reach from the previous season. Working alongside 960 local community partners, Formula E deployed a socio-economic framework developed with Deloitte that identified an estimated €5.6 million in total social value contribution (yielding an estimated Social Return on Investment of 2.7).

The €5.6 million social value contribution and 86,000+ individual impacts span four core areas:

Driving Force STEM and Sustainability Education (61,678 Pupils Reached): Connecting electric racing with real-world sustainability challenges, Formula E’s flagship educational initiative - presented in partnership with PIF - reached tomorrow’s changemakers via teacher lesson plans and hosted 1,288 students across 15 hands-on school workshops in Jeddah, Miami, and London. Post-program sentiment revealed that 77% of participants better understood technology’s positive world impact, while two-thirds felt inspired to pursue careers helping people and the planet. Furthermore, 90% of surveyed teachers agreed that Driving Force makes STEM learning more accessible.

€250,000 Better Futures Fund (8,847 Beneficiaries): Designed to leave a direct, lasting legacy in host cities, the fund supported local grass-roots initiatives. Crucially, the 2024/25 Season brought to light an untold success story: dedicated funding that tackles systemic inequalities, expand access to education and healthcare, and empower underserved communities.

Powering the Energy Transition through People (Estimated 680 Sustainability-Focused Roles Supported): Demonstrating that the transition to a low-carbon society is as much about human capital as technology, Formula E events supported an estimated 680 sustainability-focused jobs based on OECD benchmark data, nurturing talent across the sustainable economy and motorsport supply chains.

FIA Girls on Track (1,272 Participants): Deepened engagement for young women exploring STEM and motorsport careers - with 50% of participants more interested in motorsport careers after participation, and 38% more interested in STEM - complemented by the Championship's historic all-women World Championship test session.

Unlocking the Paddock for Host Communities (3,503 Local Participants): Exclusive behind-the-scenes Community Tours delivered across race cities, welcoming local residents, youth groups, and underrepresented communities into the heart of the pit lane to break down barriers, inspire future talent, and celebrate host cities.

Beyond social contribution, the 2024/25 Season reinforced Formula E’s broader sustainability leadership. Driven by a different energy, Formula E was named the world’s most sustainable sport by the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS) for the fourth consecutive year with an overall score of 85%. Additionally, Formula E became the first sport globally to achieve certification under the BSI Net Zero Pathway (aligned with ISO 14064 and IWA 42 guidelines).

Julia Pallé, Vice President of Sustainability, Formula E said: "Our mission has always been about accelerating progress. While carbon calculation is grounded in direct physical measurements, quantifying human impact requires a different set of tools. In Season 11, we set out to bring that same standard of accountability to our social footprint - working with Deloitte to build an evidence-based framework to measure our work. Reaching over 86,000 people and delivering an estimated €5.6 million in social value contribution demonstrates the tangible difference sport can make in host communities."

The 2024/25 Season Sustainability Report also highlighted how Formula E continuously challenges itself to stay out front, moving beyond traditional carbon neutrality, Formula E achieved certification under the British Standards Institute (BSI) Net Zero Pathway following an independent audit. Aligned with international standards ISO 14064 and the ISO Net Zero Guidelines (IWA 42), the framework validates Formula E’s emissions data and long-term reduction targets: a 50% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions and a 27.5% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, alongside a 90% total reduction target by 2050 at the latest.

For the fourth consecutive year, Formula E was named the world’s most sustainable sport by the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS). Outperforming 78 global sports organisations with an overall score of 85% (compared to an industry average of 57%), Formula E earned top marks across both environmental and social categories, continually increasing its score year on year.
