FP2: Rowland tops second practice ahead of qualifying for the Berlin E-Prix Round 15

Nissan e.dams' Oliver Rowland went quickest in Free Practice 2 ahead of qualifying for the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium, heading Maximilian Guenther (BMW i Andretti Motorsport) and ROKiT Venturi Racing's Norman Nato.

Rowland's 1m06.372s saw him 0.043 seconds up on Guenther's best and the Yorkshireman is aiming to go out on a high in his last race for Nissan, though by the same token, he's conscious of getting in the way of things, with the championship battle set to rage around him after he fell out of contention at the end of Round 14.

Similarly, home hero Guenther is chasing victory for BMW in the German marque's final Formula E appearance, for now, with the Bavarian marque's stint in all-electric motorsport coming to an end.

WAYS TO WATCH: Where and how to watch every minute of Season 7

Venturi were on song yesterday and led one-two at one stage. Nato's up there again, with the third fastest time of the session. Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) follows with DS TECHEETAH's Jean-Eric Vergne fifth and standings leader - and FP1 topper - Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-EQ) rounds out the top six.

More than just lap times

Lap times aren't the only focus in practice. Drivers and engineers will be working flat out to understand things like energy management profiles and setup ahead of qualifying and the race later in the day.

On top of energy management, teams work through everything from their systems, setups, FANBOOST and ATTACK MODE deployments and launches throughout practice to make sure they're on-point when it counts.

Overnight shake up

There's a unique challenge this finale double-header, too, with the second race in Berlin taking place on a reverse, clockwise layout at Tempelhof. Work was completed on the circuit build just after midnight on Sunday morning, with the chequered flag on race one coming at 15:00 on Saturday.

A quick turnaround, then, and drivers have to get to grips with what is effectively an all-new circuit except the unique concrete track surface of the old airfield's apron - a second, spare, set of tyres will help teams and drivers cope with the change-up.

There’s plenty of scope for all-change in qualifying ahead of the BMW i Berlin E-Prix presented by CBMM Niobium Round 15 to come at 11:30 local time and the race at 15:30.
