World Water Day: Formula E has saved equivalent of 300,000 plastic bottles

To celebrate World Water Day, the ABB FIA Formula E Championship has revealed that over 300,000 330ml plastic water bottles have now been saved by using 100% recyclable water pouches at Formula E events.

As part of Formula E's sustainability programme, single-use plastic bottles have been phased out at events since January 2019 and replaced with 100% reusable and recyclable water pouches, and as a result the all-electric racing series will not contribute to landfill or plastic waste and pollution.

In partnership with Allianz, these water pouches are available to all fans for free and can be filled up in the Hydration Stations across the Allianz E-Village.

For 2020, the theme for World Water Day is all about water and climate change, and how the two are linked. Between 4.8 and 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enters the ocean each year and with the use of reusable water pouches Formula E aims to set the example for delivering sustainable sports events.

With sustainability deeply rooted in Formula E's DNA, the recyclable water pouches are one of many points in the Formula E sustainability programme. Formula E is the only racing series to have the ISO 20121 certificate for sustainable events.
