Last season's winner Daniel Abt (Audi Sport Abt Schaeffler) led the first session of the 2019 CBMM Niobium Mexico City E-Prix after posting a best lap time of 59.319s. The German driver was followed by Venturi's Edoardo Mortara in second and BMW i Andretti Motorsport's Alex Sims third fastest of the morning.
With all cars breaking the overall lap record of 1:01.158s set by Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler's Lucas di Grassi last season, the new and improved Gen2 car continues to prove its worth, with a total of 19 drivers all within a second of each other.
Colder temperatures on track in the early morning session caused trouble for a number of drivers, most notably Andre Lotterer, who struggled to find the right braking points around the 2.093km Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit.
