Penalty hits Mortara's points advantage

Penalty hits Mortara's points advantage

Edoardo Mortara's Drivers' World Championship advantage has been sliced to just five points following a post-race penalty in the New York City E-Prix Round 11.

The ROKiT Venturi Racing driver had clambered to fifth in the final classification, just one position behind closest current rival in the standings Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) after the race was cut short. That left him 13 points clear of the Belgian, and further clear of the other two drivers in the hunt proper; Mitch Evans (Jaguar TCS Racing) and Jean-Eric Vergne, who each failed to score.

HIGHLIGHTS: The New York City E-Prix Round 11

Mortara exceeded the maximum speed allowed under Full Course Yellow conditions and was given a five-second penalty, which was enough to drop him from fifth to ninth.

Jake Dennis (Avalanche Andretti) and Evans received the same penalty as Mortara, demoting Dennis from eighth to 10th while Evans stays 11th.
