Jaguar unveils its first next-gen EV: the Type 01

This week, at its global premiere in New York City, Jaguar gave the world a first look at the beginning of a dramatic new chapter with its all-electric grand tourer, the Type 01.

Now, we've had a complete look at the production model - the iconic British marque's first production car of its rebooted, all-electric era.

It is an ultra-luxury, zero-emission four-door GT with a blistering 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds, powered by a tri-motor setup that generates an astonishing 1,030PS (1,016bhp) and 1,365Nm of torque.

How fast is the Jaguar Type 01, what's its range and how does it look?

The British manufacturer's new flagship promises up to 400 miles of EPA range (or 450 miles/720km WLTP) courtesy of its 118kWh usable battery pack.

Operating on an ultra-fast 850-volt electrical architecture, it can add 200 miles of range in just 13 minutes when hooked up to a 350kW rapid DC charger.

Built upon the bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), the platform allows for dramatic "exuberant modernist" proportions - featuring a low roofline, elongated bonnet, short front overhang, and massive 23-inch wheels - while maintaining ideal 50:50 weight distribution for sharp dynamic handling.

Drivers benefit from intelligent torque vectoring and active aerodynamics, including active vanes and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler that helps yield a sleek 0.23 drag coefficient.

Jaguar has ensured the Type 01 looks unlike anything else on the road, matching its exterior drama with a rich, tech-forward cabin.

Inside, a central longitudinal spine splits the cabin into four distinct zones, complemented by brass-effect anodised aluminium trim, a single glass 24-inch OLED Interactive Driver Display, a secondary 7-inch touchscreen console, and a full-width Panoramic Soundbar with sensory audio seats.

Type 01: Jaguar's charge into a modern luxury future

Nodding to the brand's heritage while signalling its clean-sheet reset, the "Type" designation honors legendary models like the E-Type, while "0" denotes zero emissions and "1" marks the first vehicle of its new generation.

Leveraging track-to-road engineering insights honed by the double world championship-winning Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team, Jaguar’s electric power delivery has been calibrated to give deep reserves of rolling power, launching from 62mph to 112mph (100km/h to 180km/h) in just 4.0 seconds.

Designed, engineered, and manufactured in the UK, the Type 01 spearheads Jaguar's transition into a fully electric modern luxury brand. Order books for the four-door grand tourer are set to open in early 2027, with the first client deliveries scheduled for the second half of that year.

What does the Jaguar Type 01 cost and when can you buy one?

Positioning the electric GT firmly in high-end luxury territory, pricing for the Jaguar Type 01 starts from £130,000 ($130,500 in the US), with higher-spec and bespoke builds expected to reach beyond £150,000.

Order books for the British-built flagship are slated to open in early 2027, with first client deliveries scheduled to follow in the second half of the year.
