Season 12 promises the biggest, boldest calendar in Formula E history, a record 17-race calendar, spanning iconic cities and cutting-edge circuits. Each stop on the global tour has been engineered with precision, grouping destinations by continent to slash freight mileage and significantly cut CO₂ emissions—proving that scale and sustainability can go together.
The new season started in São Paulo on 6 December, a city powered predominantly by renewable energy, including significant hydropower and bioenergy, which underscores Formula E’s intent to race in markets aligned with its clean-mobility mission.
As the world’s first all-electric FIA World Championship, Formula E doubles down on its mission to deliver world-class racing whilst pursuing its continued commitment to sustainable motorsport, global social impact, and environmentally responsible event delivery.
Key achievements from the Season 10 Sustainability Report
Record-breaking social impact
- Social impact programmes reached over 32,000 people across host cities through community outreach and education.
- The global initiative FIA Girls on Track expanded to all 11 race markets covered in Season 10, with a year-on-year doubling of participation—and for the first time a “podium commitment” saw a FIA Girls on Track participant present trophies at every E-Prix.
- The launch of the education platform Driving Force (presented by PIF) provided modules on air pollution, circular economy, renewable energy and diversity, equity and inclusion.
- The introduction of the Better Futures Fund delivered €75,000 in grants to community-led sustainability projects in four host cities Berlin, Shanghai and Portland.
Operational Excellence and Carbon Management
- Improvements in logistics enabled by a new global hub increased reliance on biofuel powered sea freight, while the first use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) for transcontinental freight—notably between key venues—cut transport-related emissions substantially.
- Formula E reaffirmed its environmental credentials, aligning with international standards such as ISO 20121, ISO 14064 and the IWA 42 framework for climate governance and emissions transparency.
Industry Recognition and Global Leadership
- Named #1 in the Global Sustainability Benchmark in Sport (GSBS) for a second consecutive year.
- Achieved best-ever GSBS score of 85%, with category leadership in Environmental (77%), Social (88%) and Governance (86%).
- Actively represented at New York Climate Week alongside the UN General Assembly, reinforcing Formula E’s leadership role in the global climate conversation.
Jeff Dodds, CEO, Formula E, said: “Season 10 proved once again that elite sport and sustainability are not mutually exclusive - they are mutually reinforcing. From using sustainable aviation fuel across continents to leaving lasting legacies in host cities through our Better Futures Fund, our purpose is clearer than ever: to accelerate sustainable human progress through the power of electric racing. Each year we continue to set new records and break new ground, yet our dedication to continually improve is unwavering. While many treat sustainability as a destination or make commitments without true action, our strategy is to always go further, be more ambitious and continually uncover new ways of being innovative and impactful.”
Julia Pallé, VP Sustainability, Formula E, said: “We believe electric racing can do more than inspire - it can directly drive change. Over the last 10 seasons, we have not only inspired others to act but also helped them in delivering real impact. Whether we’re supporting charities, investing in renewable energy or working directly with diverse communities and charity groups, we’re a series not focused on pledges and aspirations, but delivering true progress that can be felt and benefited from right now. For Season 10, we significantly deepened our local community impact and strengthened our commitment to building a more inclusive, equitable and resilient future in every city we race.”
Matt Page, Senior Vice President, Assurance Services EMEA at BSI, said: “Sport has the opportunity to play a leading role in our transition to a sustainable world. Formula E becoming the first sport certified to BSI’s Net Zero Pathway marks an important milestone, not only for the championship, but for global sport as a whole. This achievement reflects a deep, long-term commitment to credible climate action and demonstrates what is possible when ambition is matched with transparency and robust governance.
“Our Net Zero Pathway provides independent assurance across an organisation’s carbon inventory, targets, and management controls, helping ensure that net zero goals are both realistic and achievable. By prioritising real emissions reductions over offsetting, and by auditing progress year-on-year, the Pathway is designed to give organizations the confidence that they are firmly on track to meet net zero by 2050 or sooner.
“We have been proud to collaborate with Formula E, an organisation that continues to set new benchmarks in sustainability. Their leadership shows how any organisation, regardless of sector, can take meaningful and measurable steps toward a net zero future.”
Paul Fowler, VP Global & UK Motorsports DHL, said: “Our collaboration with Formula E shows what’s possible when logistics and sport work together. By partnering closely and rethinking freight strategies, we’ve identified practical ways to reduce emissions - optimising routes and shifting to sea and road transport—while ensuring the championship runs smoothly."
