Lopez looking for options outside all-American outfit Geox Dragon ahead of New York final

The Argentinian and Geox Dragon racer confirmed he’s committed to staying in Formula E ahead of the season finale in New York City, whether he stays with the all-American outfit or changes to a rival team.

With just days to go until the ABB FIA Formula E Championship final in New York City on July 13-14, Jose Maria Lopez is looking for options within the all-electric racing series.

After completing his third season in the series with the all-American race outfit Geox Dragon, Lopez recently commented on his future in a championship which is rapidly drawing in some of the top drivers from all over the world.

“I got into Formula E to lead from the front and win races,” says the three-time WTCC champion.

“I felt confident I could go on developing with Dragon. Hopefully I can carry on doing that and aiming to win, whether with Dragon or another team. That’s my goal. That’s what we’re working towards.”

With just three points to his name after 11 rounds, the Argentinian driver is positioned 21st in the standings. When compared to his rookie teammate Max Gunther, who sits 17th with 20 points, Lopez will need to make in impact in Geox Dragon's home race this weekend to prove himself ahead of a new season.

“This is the time of year when the negotiations start. You have to keep your ears and eyes open and see what opportunities come up.”

As the current championship draws to a close with the final in New York on July 13 and 14, the series is getting ready to kick off a new chapter in the history of all-electric racing on November 22 and 23 with a double-header in Saudi Arabia. With Seoul and London as new venues, the paddock will also welcome the likes of Porsche and Mercedes-Benz as full manufacturer teams.
