DS Virgin Racing will field an all-British line up in the Qualcomm New York ePrix following the confirmation that Alex Lynn will partner Sam Bird in the double header, which takes place on July 15/16.
Lynn was announced as the team’s reserve driver earlier in the season, and took to the track for the Shakedown in the Mexico City when clashing commitments in the World Endurance Championship caused Jose Maria Lopez to miss the session. Now the Argentine is once again unavailable, giving Lynn the opportunity to make his full race debut.
“I’m delighted to be racing for the DS Virgin Racing team,” said Lynn. “Formula E has always impressed me with its combination of advanced technology, iconic city centre locations and some of the best drivers in the world. We have a lot of testing and simulator work to do before the New York event, but I’m confident I can show what I’m capable of during my rookie debut in the Big Apple.”
The inaugural New York race, which takes place at Red Hook in Brooklyn, will be the first event of the season that Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson has attended. He has even offered his services as the team’s new reserve!
“I heard about the situation at the team and offered my services! As you know, I’ve always loved a challenge and Alex, Sam and myself are the three plucky Brits ready to take on New York. Team Principal Alex Tai is putting me through my paces before the event; I’ve organised some testing time on the streets of Manhattan ahead of the race so hopefully I can impress the boss!”
